WAM-BAMM*05
The first annual World Association of Modeling - Biologically Accurate Modeling
Meeting (WAM-BAMM*05) was held March 30 – April 2nd in beautiful San
Antonio, Texas. Unique in its structure and purpose, the meeting was organized
to specifically promote communication and collaboration between users and
others involved in realistic biological modeling as well as to provide an
introduction to other interested scientists. The meeting was attended by 88
scientists from 11 different countries around the world including Armenia,
Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, France, Germany, India, Iran, Lebanon,
Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Users and developers of
both the GENESIS and NEURON
simulation systems were well represented at the meeting.
The meeting itself started with a day of tutorials on a wide range of technical and scientific subjects of relevance to realistic modeling. It continued with two days of scientific presentations and closed with a series of discussion groups focused on future developments in realistic modeling. The final banquet was held at the Leon Springs Dance Hall, and featured Rudy's Texas BBQ, rated by Gourmet Magazine as the best BBQ in the United States. The post-meeting evaluation completed by participants rated the quality of the overall meeting at 4.4 on a scale of 1 – 5 (poor to outstanding).
WAM-BAMM*05
received generous support from the National
Institutes of Health (NIH), the National
Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National
Science Foundation (NSF), and the Research
Imaging Center at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.
